As any experienced skier worth their fat skis will tell you, it’s hard to beat the USA for the quantity and quality of snow.
Sure, Europe has dramatic peaks, glaciers and crevasses, but if you want a goggles-on, face-shot skiing kind of a day, cross the Atlantic.
Find the Fluffier Snow
USA ski resorts, particularly those in Utah, not only average more snowfall than their European counterparts, the snow is actually “more desirable,” with lower water content making for lighter, fluffier snow.

More Snow and Top-Rated Terrain
In Utah, resorts such as Alta and Snowbird are hit with more than 500 inches of snow annually (compare that with Val d’Isère’s average 240 inches in France). Although powder hound favorites Jackson Hole in Wyoming and Squaw Valley in California can’t claim as much snow as Utah’s resorts, their terrain compensates with vertical drops, vast open bowls, sheltered gullies and inviting pillow lines.
