Get outside and discover Greater Fort Lauderdale in South Florida, both on and off the water.

With nearly 60 kilometers of pristine beaches, top-notch dining and cultural institutions, the area is an urban oasis steeped in natural beauty. From the seagrass to the sawgrass, Greater Fort Lauderdale offers visitors a chance to enjoy beaches, boating, Everglades wildlife, dining, shopping and culture.

Explore the Everglades

The vast, tropical ecosystem known as the Everglades is, in fact, not a swamp but rather a shallow, slow-moving river that’s hope to a wide variety of wildlife. Tour this “River of Grass” via airboat or car to spot gators, manatees, birds, bobcats and maybe even a panther. Native Americans have lived in the area around the Everglades for thousands of years. Visit the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum at the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation to learn about the history and culture of the Seminole people.

Cruise Inland Waterways

Greater Fort Lauderdale is known as the “Venice of America,” thanks to its more than 400 kilometers of canals that make up the Intracoastal Waterway. Go beyond the beach to discover the beauty of this inland area through boat tours, sailboat and powerboat charters, and freshwater and saltwater fishing. Hop on a water taxi for a guided tour from the captain covering the area’s history and attractions (be on the lookout for mega-mansions and yachts). Or, go for a free ride on the Water Trolley, which makes eight stops along the river.
