    Northern Mariana Islands

Located in the western Pacific Ocean, The Marianas offer a blissful opportunity to unplug and relax in the abundant sunshine.

There are 14 islands in total in the U.S. commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, also known as The Marianas. Saipan, Tinian and Rota in the south are the most populated, while the remote Northern islands are sparsely populated.

About the Islands

The largest and most populous island (by far) is Saipan; 8 kilometers to the southwest is Tinian, and further southwest is the more isolated Rota. All are known for outdoor activities, especially golf; the islands have several oceanfront courses. Diving is also a favorite pastime, as the islands are home to many coral reefs, as well as World War II shipwrecks, underwater caverns and a spot where eagle rays are known to congregate. The 5-kilometer Saipan Beach Road Pathway is an ideal spot to take a long walk (or "boonie stomp," as locals call it). And if you just want to relax on a white sandy beach, you’ll have plenty of chances to do that, too.
