For first-timers, a trip to the Myrtle Beach area isn’t complete without a stop along the downtown Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade. Popular restaurants including Jimmy Buffett’s Land Shark Bar and Grill and attractions including the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel are situated along the boardwalk, making it a must-see for anyone new to the area.

The Myrtle Beach area is home to the largest outdoor presentation of American figurative sculpture in the world – Brookgreen Gardens. Created in the early 1930s by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, Brookgreen Gardens is on the site of four former rice plantations and home to more than 900 works by 300 of the greatest names in American sculpture, both past and present.

Your child will never forget watching an oceanfront fireworks show from the Second Avenue Pier in downtown Myrtle Beach. The free shows take place every Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. during the summer.

The Myrtle Beach area is often considered a bargain hunter's paradise for both visitors and locals and is especially so at either of the area’s Tanger Outlet locations. They boast more than 100 brand-name designer outlet stores including Coach, Fossil, Kenneth Cole, Nine West, Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor and Kate Spade. Plus, both outlets are brimming with tempting restaurants and specialty shops selling housewares, perfume, books and gifts.

For night owls on vacation, we recommend a stop at exciting Celebrity Square, located at Broadway at the Beach. Celebrity Square is a New Orleans-style boulevard with 10 of Myrtle Beach’s hottest clubs and nightspots, from the well-known Hard Rock Café, Margaritaville and Señor Frogs to places such as Crocodile Rocks and Fat Tuesday. Travelers should keep an eye out for in-season street parties and daily specials – because there’s always something new!
