Chicago Northwest: Dining and Entertainment

By Hitomi Farrell

Chicago Northwest is a gem of the Chicagoland area. It’s a suburban area that’s close to O’Hare International Airport and easily reached by the Illinois commuter rail system, Metra. Among the stylish brick buildings, this is a perfect spot for eating delicious food and enjoying fine entertainment.

Dining – after Shopping – at the Woodfield Mall

If you love shopping and dining as much as I do, you have to check out Woodfield Mall. This huge mall, which offers nearly 300 stores, will certainly keep you entertained. With its excellent selection of stores from J. Crew and Michael Kors to American Eagle Outfitters, Apple and Nike, you almost don’t notice how quickly you work up an appetite. Luckily, the food court at this massive mall is among the best I’ve seen. You’ll find quick service at familiar places, of course, but what I loved most about this food court was the selection of finer dining options.

After a great experience at Woodfield, I decided to go across the street to the Streets of Woodfield. This is a great outdoor shopping and entertainment complex, the perfect place to take advantage of a beautiful day. And with the LEGOLAND Discovery Center here, you can bring the whole family and keep everyone happy. Dining options at the Streets of Woodfield include casual Mexican fare at Chipotle, delicious Italian food at Maggiano’s Little Italy and seafood at Shaw’s Crab Shack. Also stop in to browse or shop for healthy and organic groceries at Whole Foods, or grab a delicious coffee concoction at Starbucks.

Gourmet Steakhouses

Chicago is known for its fine dining and especially its great steakhouses, so it stands to reason that there are also many great eateries to choose from in Chicago Northwest: Chicago Prime Steakhouse, Morton’s The Steakhouse, Wildfire and Weber Grill with its huge barbecue grill sitting out front… the list goes on.

As a steak lover, I chose Chicago Prime Steakhouse. The interior was rich and stylish. I value the style and atmosphere of a restaurant along with great-tasting food, and this place was the right choice for me. My filet mignon almost melted in my mouth. As for the wine list, the restaurant is a recipient of an “Award of Excellence” by the highly esteemed Wine Spectator. And in keeping with today’s increasing dietary restrictions, a gluten-free menu is available upon request. Most of all, I loved the classy atmosphere at Chicago Prime Steakhouse and could have sat forever in its large dark-wood-paneled dining room with the starched white tablecloths and ceiling fans.

Chicago Northwest offers outstanding entertainment and shopping, but for food lovers like me, it’s all about the dining. Bring your taste buds and appetite with you!
