Atlanta, Georgia: Charming Southern Metropolis

By Bruno Schwartz

Home of the 1996 Olympics, Atlanta has a very diverse population with a city full of attractions for everyone – from Buckhead, considered the “Beverly Hills of the East,”` to Midtown Atlanta, a hotbed of nightlife. This city is one of the most important in the southern region of the United States, and therefore has a lot to offer its visitors, including museums, shopping, parks, entertainment and top-quality dining.

Explore Centennial Olympic Park and Downtown Atlanta
Start your adventure at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta. From there, many of Atlanta’s top attractions and hotels are all within walking distance, as is public transportation. Nearby, there are several world-class attractions such as the Inside CNN Studio Tour, the Georgia Aquarium and, my favourite, the World of Coca-Cola Museum.

Whether you drink Coca-Cola or not, it’s easy to understand the allure and power of the brand. Transcending generations, this soda plays a role in lives around the globe. Visiting the World of Coca-Cola Museum and experiencing all the flavours of Coca-Cola soft drinks from all over the world is an unforgettable experience! I was surprised by all the attractions and mysteries of the museum, such as the famous formula for Coca-Cola. It’s a must-see for all ages!

Bring Your Children
There are always many cultural events throughout the city such as concerts, exhibitions and performances. Atlanta is an amusement park for children as well. Piedmont Park is huge and ideal for the whole family, with basketball courts, lakes, playgrounds, barbecue grills and sand volleyball courts. This park has an excellent view of Atlanta’s skyline, too.

In addition to Piedmont Park, Zoo Atlanta and LEGOLAND Discovery Center, do not miss the water fountains at Centennial Olympic Park. While the little ones play, it is so much fun to sit for a few minutes and watch kids – from all walks of life and from every corner of Atlanta – having a blast in the fountains.

Bars, Restaurants and Culture
If you think the activities during the day will keep you busy, get ready for more as the night is very promising. Midtown Atlanta’s nightlife is on the list of every Atlanta travel guide and is a very popular destination. Midtown is a neighbourhood with many bars, stores, restaurants, nightclubs and lounges, and exudes modern sophistication. Other nightlife districts are more contemporary and spread out in Buckhead and other areas.

My favourite thing to do was explore the many diverse restaurants in Atlanta. The culinary scene here is very dynamic and the city is proud of it. Buford Highway is lined with scores of ethnic restaurants. I had the opportunity to observe many cultures – looking, smelling, choosing and tasting a variety of dishes. The culture here is reflected in every dish.

I really enjoyed the many leisure options in Atlanta. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye, but what brings me comfort is that I will be back soon!
