Aspen/Snowmass in Winter: A Non-Skier’s Luxury Guide

By Hitomi Farrell

Aspen/Snowmass is a beautiful place any time of year, but especially in winter, when the pure white snow that shines like diamonds spreads as far as you can imagine. Every year, ski and snowboard enthusiasts from all over the world visit here to enjoy its soft powder snow just like silk. And that alone is worth the visit – but if you don’t ski or snowboard, there’s still plenty to keep you entertained here!

Spectacular Views Are Waiting for You

Everything you’d want to do in Aspen is located within easy access of downtown Aspen. You don’t need to waste your time and effort. You can simply enjoy your day without hassle. But if you think only winter sport enthusiasts have reason to leave downtown and head up the mountain, think again. Luckily, the gondola plaza is also located right in the center of downtown, within easy walking distance from the hotels. Take a gondola ride from downtown, with or without skis, and you will be in a different world in about 15 minutes.

A single ticket gives you access to all four mountains, where you can admire the spectacular natural scenery while enjoying a delicious meal at the top of the mountain. One such restaurant is the Cliffhouse, featuring great Mongolian BBQ and stunning panoramic views of iconic Colorado peaks and Maroon Creek Valley.

Another favourite atop Aspen Mountain is Sundeck, where you can replenish your energy with its variety of menu items and spectacular panoramic views. I was at a loss for words taking in the views of the beautiful mountains covered in pure, white snow while enjoying lunch on the spacious patio.

Stylish Downtown Aspen

Few words describe Downtown Aspen better than charming. This mountain town offers a large variety of hotels, spas, shopping, dining and nightlife. Indulge yourself in gourmet cuisine and nearly 100 restaurants in the charming setting of Downtown Aspen.

Aspen Downtown won’t bore shopping enthusiasts either. From high-end stores such as Burberry and Ralph Lauren to charming boutique shops, the selection is endless. There are also many art galleries that featured works by local artists. I was able to spend a lovely afternoon strolling around town. Wherever you go, places are vibrant and filled with people. We decided to enjoy happy hour before heading back to our hotel. At night, Downtown Aspen becomes even more romantic, as the trees light up like Christmas. It was very pretty indeed.

The last night of our stay, we had dinner at a stylish restaurant and bar called Element 47 in the famous Little Nell hotel in Downtown Aspen. Their food and wine selection were so tasty and exquisite, my cheeks grew tired from smiling so much! What a memorable end to this memorable holiday!
