To the Beach! Virginia Beach.

Three hours south of Washington, D.C. lays the oceanfront resort town of Virginia Beach. And, of course, a boardwalk! Since this was to be our last day of the trip (so sad!), we didn’t check into the Hilton Garden Inn, but we did make it our home base for later when we’d get ready to head off for the airport.

This group of road-trippers doesn’t go out with a whimper — with the time we had left we set out for kayaking. The people at Chesapean Outdoors equipped us and we were off to look for dolphins on the Chesapeake Bay. Thanks to mating season at Cape Henry, we got what we came for: dolphins galore!

Back at the beach, we had time to check out the iconic King Neptune statue at Neptune Park along the boardwalk. The bronze statue of the king also includes an octopus, two dolphins, a sea turtle, lobster and 12 fish as his court. It’s as impressive as it is massive and to be honest, it made us hungry.

Our last meal of this incredible road trip was fittingly in a replica of an old Coast Guard station called Rudee’s on the Inlet. Is it any surprise that we chose outdoor seating? We wanted a waterfront setting to seal the deal on what would go down as one of the best road trips of all time. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
